Whats Happening Around Cape Agulhas

The Fenwick Daughters - News

Our eldest daughter Julienne who is a medical doctor has completed her 2 year internship in Durban and has moved on to complete her obligation to the government by working a final year community service at the Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town. She has completed her surgery exam and is considering specialising in gynaecology or obstetrics. Her partner, Hezron, is a full time violinist, playing progressive instrumental music and he travels SA with his band. They have a company called Mad Violinist Productions that is an advocate for progressive instrumental music in SA and promote upcoming bands. Chelsea who was in the USA for a full 3 years, came home for a 3 month holiday which was enjoyed by all. She has returned to work at Donald Trump’s Mar a Largo estate in Palm Beach, Florida. She will be moving on to Mountain Air Golf Estate for a 4th season in North Carolina after Mother’s day.

New Staff

We are delighted with the appointment of 2 new chefs, Jean-Albert Steyn and Gareth van der Merwe. Both are newly qualified chefs from the Warwick’s Chef School in Hermanus and they are proving to be worth their weight in gold (and they are tall, strapping young men!) They have done really well, serving light lunches and our 3 course set menu dinners. They are really hard working and very creative chefs who have made a big difference to Sue in terms of off-time. She now mainly manages the menus and kitchen and doesn’t have to spend nearly any time in the kitchen behind the stove. Chris Jordaan has been welcomed to our team – he is the new admin manager and is responsible for all reservations and reception. Chris has a wonderfully friendly personality and is a great asset in the office. We hope to build on our relationship with our new staff and have a mutually beneficial and long stay at the lodge. Our old kitchen staff are really benefiting from the “new blood” in the kitchen and a good team spirit and pride in their work create a happy working environment for old and new.
